What is the first thing you think of when you hear ‘’France”?

Probably the answer would be: the Eiffel Tower. It was built to celebrate 200 years of the French revolution. If you don’t want to use the elevator to climb to the top, there are 1710 stairs!

France is the world’s most popular tourist destinations, about 82 million visitors annually.

It is called “The hexagon” due to its geometrical shape.

The capital, Paris, is well-known as the city of love and romance.

The interesting fact about Paris is that many couples used to go, celebrate their love, and enjoyed sightseeing from any roof of any building. Nowadays, that is forbidden but young people still follow the tradition and break some rules.

The world’s greatest cycle race, the Tour de France, has been around for more than 100 years with the first event held on 1 July 1903. Every July, cyclists race some 3,200km.

A French woman is the world’s oldest ever human. She lived to an incredible 122 years and 164 days, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. She was born on 21 February 1875 and died on 4 August 1997. In general, in the French region La Provence there is the biggest number of 100 year old inhabitants in the world.

French gastronomy is very famous all around the world. You’ve probably heard about French cheese, French baguette or wine, but, did you know that in France you will be offered to eat snails (escargots), frogs (cuisses de grenouille) or even goose liver pate (foie gras). The interesting fact is that an average French citizen eats 500 snails each year.

Courtesy counts in France. Even in a coffee shop not saying “hello” (“bonjour”) and “please” (“s’il vous plait”) will increase the cost of your beverage.
