Some thoughts on going to university!
Time goes by fast – especially with the exams coming up. The day I leave PRIMA and go to university is getting closer and this fact is both exciting and intimidating.
Not everyone is as concerned about further studies as much as I am. However, since I like to plan way ahead, this topic has been on my mind for as long as I can remember. Many of the decisions I have made in my life are closely related to where and what I am going to study. I have spent a considerable amount of time thinking about that, so now I think I can say that I know in which direction I want my education to go in.
In less than two weeks, I am going to the UK for a short visit to some universities and educational fairs. Although modern technology makes university information easily available to everyone anywhere, I still believe that the only way to properly get to know what a certain university is like is to visit it and experience it in real life. Talking to the staff, current students and alumni is another way to get to know about the place you are potentially going to spend the next couple of years in.
Of course, getting a place at a desired university is not possible without achieving good grades at AS and A level. My tip for everyone preparing for these exams is to study somewhere away from home (e.g. library) in order to increase efficiency. Exams are something that should be taken very seriously since the results influence which university you are going to go to. Therefore, the approach you take to studying is crucial. Also, keep in mind that teachers are there to help you and they will be more than glad to answer all your additional questions (especially in PRIMA, because teachers here are amazing – honestly).
Even if it does not go as planned, do not worry much about it. Not everyone gets accepted to their dream university and that is completely okay. I was supposed to attend a boarding school in Years 12 and 13 but I ended up staying in Belgrade due to various reasons. Now, I am actually glad that I did not go to a boarding school at the end. This year has probably been the best year of my life and most likely it would not have been like that if I had not stayed. Things will not always go your way, so make the best out of it. You never know if there might be something better along the road.
