Recycling

We’ve all heard the three Rs right? Reduce, reuse, and recycle. But how many people actually follow them? Annually Serbia produced 2,130,000 tons of municipal waste. Yet, Serbia recycles ten times less than most countries in Europe.

So, what does recycling even mean? Recycling is converting something that would be categorized as waste into something new. Recycling is the way to help our planet and save it for next generations. And it is something that we can all do. This means that instead of all our old tests and worksheets ending up in landfills they end up being made into new paper. Since we are a school we use hundreds of sheets of paper daily. This means that over the entire year thousands of sheets of paper would end up in landfills from just PRIMA alone! We chose a different option; we chose to recycle.

In collaboration with “Gradska Cistoca” we have successfully implemented recycling. Each student from preschool to year 13 is participating in this initiative. The green boxes for paper and yellow boxes for plastic bottles are placed on each floor and in the kitchen. All teachers and students agree that this is a wonderful idea. Sara Veselinovic from Year 10 had this to say “Introducing recycling was a brilliant idea and I am thrilled that the school has adopted sustainable practices.”
