The Irish breakfast and the trip to Ada
On 20.03 we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 went to ‘’Smokvica’’ to an Irish breakfast. This was part of the manifestation organized by the Belgrade Irish Festival.
Our day started as any other Monday, with the first
period, but at 9:15, to our delight, we got on a bus and drove to “Smokvica”, a café and restaurant in Vracar, a cosy Belgrade neighborhood. There, we feasted on a traditional Irish breakfast while listening to an Irish gentleman, Jan, from the Belgrade Irish Festival talk about St. Patrick. Jan conveyed the significance of the holiday for the Irish through his very post-St. Patrick’s-Day presence. His speech was enthralling and he managed to keep our attention.
The breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast and beans. The students, as well of the teachers, enjoyed it and more importantly, it gave us energy for the rest of our day. Moreover, we got to learn who St. Patrick was and why he was important for Ireland.
After the delicious breakfast we went to Ada to relax and enjoy the rest of the day. We rented bicycles and raced around Ada. The first ones to finish the circle were Nina and Aleksa from Year 12, congratulations to them! Also, we didn’t just ride bikes around Ada as fast as we could, we tried to make bike riding a bit more interesting than it already is. Some students rented tandem bikes and tricycles. They misunderstood the meaning of the word “tricycle” and thought it meant a bicycle for three people.
We were lucky enough to have very nice weather and enjoyed the whole day, except we could have done without the first period. We thought it was a very nice way to spend time with our schoolmates outside the classrooms and relax before the exams and the pre-exam stress. We are grateful for days like this and hope for more!
