In Students Shoes
Interview with Veselin ‘Vesko’ Rubchev
In the latest edition of PRIMA Inspirer we have chosen to interview one of our new students, who happen to stand out in Prima International School due to his basketball career. We wanted to find out how he has adapted here in Serbia and whether his life is only centered around basketball.
Hello, where are you from and how did you end up in Belgrade?
I am from Bulgaria, and as for Belgrade, I have been here since last September because my father works here.
Why have you chosen to attend Prima International School and how do you like it?
I have chosen Prima because of its reputation. As for the school itself, I really like it as the teachers are really cool and I made some great new friendships. All in all, I feel great here.
So I heard you played basketball, can you tell me more about that?
Yeah, of course. I had previously played for four years in Bulgaria and six months since I’ve come here so this is my fifth year playing basketball. Here in Belgrade I practice with Dynamic while in Bulgaria I used to do it with Levski.
Have you participated in any basketball competitions?
I have played in the Bulgarian first division as well as the Bulgarian Cup. Since I have moved to Belgrade, I compete in the Serbian league.
How do you like Belgrade, do you go out often?
Yes, I go out very often when I’m here. Actually Belgrade is similar to Sofia as the people are the same, and that’s why I believe I fit in nicely. Unfortunately, I do not have any favorite places yet, but I am still discovering the city.
Do you have any hobbies outside of basketball?
No, not really.
Any future ambitions regarding basketball?
I would like to keep training until I turn eighteen, and after that I will decide. I will definitely continue playing basketball as a recreational activity.
I was told you had some experience in Spanish?
Yes, I started learning Spanish last year in Bulgaria and I can say that I can communicate really well now. Mr. Juan is a great guy and a great teacher and I hope I will learn even more with him.
Lastly, what are you future plans after high school?
I wish to go to college in Italy, however I have not decided what I want to study yet.
Thank you from all of us in PRIMA Inspirer for informing us about your sports background and showing us who the man behind the sport is.
