Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year,[ also known as the "Spring Festival" (simplified Chinese 春节; traditional Chinese 春節; Pinyin: Chūn Jié) in modern Mainland China, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February. In 2017, the first day of the Chinese New Year was on Saturday, 28 January, initiating the year of the Rooster.
At PRIMA International School the Chinese New Year presentations started when primary department played their roles to the preschool. Later on it was decided for secondary to come down and watch it too.
Goodness, Year 6 student, started playing the recorder and the rest of the year group, along with Year 5, did the main part of the play: they were dressed like dragons and Chinese zodiac symbols.
The play continued for around 5 minutes and was about a boy who knew how to draw very good and he was given a magic brush by the King of the boy’s homeland; whatever he draws with it, it becomes real.
Later, some of the secondary students made a short presentation that told us about how the Chinese New Year is celebrated in China.
Everyone enjoyed the day and we were excited after it ended. It was an unforgettable day and all the good work the students put into entertaining us had paid off in the end!
